Human beings are aware of their connection with the Earth, not only because they inhabit it, but especially because they know they depend on it. Its elements are a source of life for us. Yet, throughout history, we have managed to lose touch with our planet, relentlessly exploiting its resources at the expense of both its health and our own. Like our planet, we human beings are also losing our fertility. Many women experience motherhood as a difficult goal to achieve. Like them, men too fall victim to infertility, which they often prefer to hide. The subject remains a taboo in a society that expects us to be both parents and workers at the same time. Failing to be one or the other leads to a state of discomfort, distress, and loneliness, often leading to depression. Women, struggling in their generative journey, experience feelings of distress that increase and worsen in the pervasive silence. This mindset only fuels stress, creating fertile ground for further failures. In this project, nature appears as a place of regeneration and comfort. It returns to being Mother Nature, the deity to whom we ask for help. It embodies our need to connect with the Earth, to be part of it, and at the same time, to shift our focus back to our true dimension as human beings: tiny inhabitants of the planet. To give photographic substance to these feelings, a bird's-eye view of those places that, for personal or socio-historical reasons, become sacred, regenerative, and fertile has been chosen. The project also aims to expose the vulnerabilities of the individual in contrast with the vastness of our planet. The human presence, in fact, appears as a small dot in the frame, which in turn will frame an “embryonic” figure that rests on the ground and merges with its surroundings, becoming part of it. The works are self-portraits created using a drone. The project is shared with my partner, Ippolito Simion, a filmmaker. The collaboration arises from both a technical need and the fact that we are living this condition of difficulty in becoming parents. To depict the deep connection with the surrounding environment, images of geological and natural elements that surround the chosen locations are alternated.
